Bio

Barak Platt is a partner in the firm’s Corporate & Commercial Department and specializes in mergers and acquisitions, high-tech, venture capital and private equity. His clients range from large multinational corporations to early-stage startups, and also include venture capital funds and private equity funds.

Barak has been repeatedly recognized as an expert in his practice areas and as a recommended lawyer by leading international legal guides, including Chambers Global, The Legal 500 and IFLR1000.

Barak has practiced law for more than 30 years in Israel and the United States. He has served as lead counsel in many merger and acquisition transactions, including many of the largest and most significant transactions in Israel, addressing all aspects, including intellectual property, tax and regulatory matters. In addition, many of the leading players both in the Israeli and the global venture capital scene have turned to Barak to assist them in hundreds of investments in portfolio companies.

Before moving to Israel, Barak spent numerous years practicing law in Los Angeles at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and in San Francisco at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen (now Bingham McCutchen).

Barak graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude, in 1984 and received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 1987. He then served as a legal clerk to United States District Judge Earl B. Gilliam in the Southern District of California. Barak was admitted to the California Bar in 1987 and to the Israel Bar in 1993.

  • Represented Intel Corporation in its acquisition of numerous Israeli companies, including:
  • Its $15.3 billion acquisition of advanced driver-assistance systems developer, Mobileye – the largest M&A transaction to take place in Israel.
  • Its $5.4 billion acquisition of Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM) (pending)
  • Its $2 billion acquisition of the Tel Aviv-based artificial intelligence chip developer, Habana Labs Ltd.
  • Its $1 billion acquisition Moovit, a mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) solutions company.
  • Represented smart car company, Autotalks Ltd., in its acquisition by Qualcomm.
  • Represented gaming company, Ilyon Dynamics, in its sale to Tencent-owned mobile developer, Miniclip.
  • Represented online video editor Magisto in its sale to global video platform Vimeo.
  • Representing Intel Capital in many of its investment transactions in Israel.
  • Represented SalesPredict, which uses advanced analytics to predict consumer-buying behaviour, in its sale to eBay.
  • Represented computer data storage company Kaminario in investment rounds, raising more than $200 million.
